Bridge steel structures are common and important components in modern bridge engineering. According to different structural forms and uses, they can be divided into the following four main types:
Steel truss bridge:
Steel truss bridge is one of the most common types of bridge steel structures. Its main feature is the bridge deck structure composed of multiple parallel steel trusses. Steel truss bridges are suitable for bridges of various spans, from short spans to extra-long spans. This bridge structure can usually adapt to different span and load requirements through steel trusses of different arrangements and shapes.
Steel box girder bridge:
The deck structure of the steel box girder bridge adopts box-section steel members, and its cross-sectional shape can be rectangular, trapezoidal or other specially designed shapes. Steel box girder bridges are usually used for medium and long span bridges. Its design can effectively withstand the load under the bridge span and has high stiffness and stability.
Suspension bridge:
A suspension bridge is a bridge structure that uses cables to support the main span beam. The cables are generally composed of steel cables. Suspension bridges are suitable for large-span bridges. They are characterized by the main span beam cantilevered between two or more main towers, and the bridge deck load is supported by suspension cables. Suspension bridges are often used to cross natural obstacles such as rivers and canyons due to their unique structural form, and have good wind load resistance and aesthetics.
Arch bridge:
An arch bridge is a bridge built in an arc or curve form, and its main load-bearing structure is an arched bridge deck formed by steel components. Common forms of arch bridges include single-hole arch bridges and multi-hole arch bridges. Their characteristics are that the load is transmitted and carried through the arch structure above the bridge deck, and they have good structural stability and aesthetics. Steel arch bridges are generally suitable for bridges with medium and short spans, but there are also a few designed for special projects with larger spans.
These four types of bridge steel structures have their own characteristics and can be selected and applied according to different spans, load requirements and engineering conditions, providing a variety of design and construction solutions for modern bridge projects.
